Blur guitarist Graham Coxon has teased fans of the band by revealing that they may play some new material at their Olympic gig in Hyde Park this summer.
The band are set to perform alongside New Order and The Specials on August 12th as part of the official closing ceremony to the London 2012 Olympics, and have promised their fans that they’ll have plenty of tricks up their sleeve for the show – which could see them performing new material from a potential brand new studio album.
When asked by The BBC if anything new would be getting played, Coxon replied: “Mmmm, perhaps. There might be some surprises. I'm not sure what any of the other people in the group have said – we all say different things and then we all get told 'Don't say that', 'But they said that', and [end up] getting into trouble. But there's going to be some surprises.”
The comments come after Coxon told NME that the band would be ‘interested in playing new things’ – only for him to go on and say: “We always used to play underdeveloped things and kick them into shape during the shows, but it isn't the occasion for that. Obviously we're not gonna play the same set we played in 2009, but there things that people always, always wanna hear.”
