Matt Cardle Insists He Is Happy To Have Been Dropped By Record Label

X-Factor winner Matt Cardle has insisted that he's happy that he's been dropped by his record label – despite releasing just one album.

We reported last week that Cardle has been cut loose from record label Columbia, and it wasn't too surprising why - his most recent singles 'Starlight' and 'Amazing' hit just #185 and #84 in the Singles chart. But, after announcing the move, he told fans he was 'excited' and that there was big news coming soon.

Now, he's told The Sun: "I think we were going in different ways. I feel super-excited to be finally in control, and fully in control of what I am doing musically and the direction I am going in.”

Cardle continued: “I don't think you can expect anything in this industry. You have just got to do your best and I feel what I have done has worked well and it wasn’t right for the position we were both in.”

Cardle's debut 'Letters' hit #2 when it came out, and his debut single 'When We Collide' (a cover of Biffy Clyro) managed to top the Singles chart, but he's struggled ever since – so perhaps being axed could turn out to be beneficial for the star.
