Wham! To Reunite For One-Off 30th Anniversary Gig?

Lock up your mothers! It looks as though 80's pop superstars Wham! are set to reform for a one-off celebratory concert.

This month Wham! celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut single 'Wham Rap', and The Mirror newspaper has reported that both George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley are making plans to reform for a "one-off pop extravaganza” to celebrate.

An source close to both George and Andrew revealed to The Mirror newspaper: “George and Andrew have often said their Club Tropicana days are well behind them. But seeing as their anniversary coincides with George releasing new material, it’s one of those ‘now or never’ moments.

"They probably won’t do a long tour or release new material like Take That but they do want to commemorate the event with a big gig... and an even bigger party afterwards!

“Things are still in the early stages but everybody is getting really excited about it.”

From 1982 to their split in 1986, Wham! released three studio albums and sold over 25 million records worldwide. Speaking about a possible reunion, George Michael commented: "Although I know the music industry tradition on such occasions is to list the hundreds of millions of albums sold, the number of records broken and awards received over all those years, I would simply like to say thank you."

Fast forward 16 years since the group's demise, Andrew Ridgeley, now opting for a life away from the limelight, resides in a quiet area of Cornwell with his partner Bananarama star Karen Woodward. Meanwhile George Michael seems to find it impossible to avoid the spotlight and remains a huge worldwide star. He resumes his Symphonica tour in September after being hospitalised while suffering from life-threatening pneumonia.

George is set to release brand new song 'White Light' later this month to mark the Wham! anniversary. Speaking about the release, George said: "On June 29 it will be 30 years to the day that Wham Rap, our first single, entered the charts.

"To celebrate, I’m releasing my new song. I dreamed of a career as a singer/songwriter from an early age but never could I have known I’d still be here 30 years later, with much more music to give.”
