This years’ Coalfields (formally known as M-Fest) will be taking place at Darton Longfields over the weekend of 14th and 15th July.
A plethora of family friendly music will take your breath away, with music across all genres to whet your appetite – including indie, soul, acoustic, metal, pop, cover bands and DJ sets – across four stages.
Headlining the festival on Saturday will be Barnsley favourites, Exit Calm. Their set is highly anticipated with them having toured recently with musical giants such as The Sunshine Underground, Echo and the Bunnymen and Ocean Colour Scene. Not to mention the fact that they’ve been personally requested by Liam Gallagher to play the launch night of his fashion label, Pretty Green. The last time they played Barnsley was to a sell out audience at the Civic, and was a performance which left everyone in attendance feeling they had witnessed something very special. Steve Norman, formally of Spandau Ballet, is headlining the main stage on Sunday.
The other stages, throughout both of the days, will be showering you with excellent music. A definite highlight will be Brighton rockers, Munich – headlining the Burn Down the Disco stage on Sunday evening. It will be a rare opportunity to see this recently signed and up-and-coming band at such an intimate festival. The King Bains also come highly recommended and will be headlining the acoustic stage on Saturday evening.
Also included in the line up will be bands and artists who are regulars on the local music scene. Hitomi, Red Mist Destruction, Remains of You, Dislocator, James Worton and Stellavision to name but a few.
Coalfields is a not for profit festival, and exists to raise money for two local charities, Barnsley Hospice and Bluebell Wood. For further information on this year's festival, visit the event's official Facebook page.
