Blur: 'We're Drowning In Commercialism Of The Olympics'

Britpop legends Blur have opened up about their feelings on the London 2012 Olympics, saying that they feel ‘drowned in commercialism’ at the moment’.

Blur are amongst a number of big name acts scheduled to perform at the closing ceremony of the Olympics, alongside The Specials, Bombay Bicycle Club, and New Order, but the band have stated that they’re simply playing for the fans - and not the corporate side of the event, which the band feels is taking over.

“I'm just anti the capitalism of it all,” frontman Damon Albarn told The Sun. “We're not doing the gig for the corporate side of the Olympics, we're doing it for the human beings. It feels like you're drowning in commercialism at the moment. It’s depressing. But I am into the table tennis so I would like to get some tickets for that. It would be an inspiration to see it at that level.”

He added: “We’re not doing the show for the weather, we’re doing it for the park and the people.”

If you’re a fan, and want to catch them outside of the corporate world of the Olympics, check below to find out when they’re playing in a venue near you.
