Olympics Star Louis Smith Visits Olympic Park's Emerging Icons Stage

Double medal-winning Team GB gymnast Louis Smith has joined some of the UK's best up and coming musicians on the Emerging Icons Stage at Olympic Park to celebrate the talent that has been showcased during this summer's Olympic and Paralympic Games.

As part of London’s 2012 Olympic celebrations, visitors from all over the world have been visiting the stage to be entertained by around 60 bands from across the country, getting a taste of the best musical talent that Britain has to offer. Louis was treated to a performance by soulboy James Craise and an impromptu jamming session with London band Gecko as they teamed up to show the gymnast the breadth of talent that's made the stage such a huge hit with thousands visitors from all over the world.

“I think it’s fantastic for new UK artists to perform here and be part of the Olympic experience,” Smith said of the events. “People have travelled from around the world to come to the Park, they're bringing communities together. I think what these guys are doing is fantastic, music brings joy to everyone, they are definitely making the Olympic and Paralympic Games more fun.”

Kat Jackman, founder of Unsigned Band Review that has curated the Emerging Icons Stage at Olympic Park, said of Louis' visit: “It was an absolute honour to have Louis at the stage - people from all over the world have been truly entertained by the artists we've had performing and to have Louis come, after his amazing success, and acknowledge the part they've played in making the Games so special, is incredible and a real nod to the strength of talent on show here.”

Emerging Icons forms part of an entertainment programme which spans across all four zones of the Olympic Park ‘common domain’, featuring a range of talent and London 2012 projects. This is creating a once in a lifetime experience for all visitors and bringing the magic of the Games to the green spaces and concourses in the Park. The newly built Olympic Park is the largest urban park to be built in 150 years and will feature live sport at nine world class venues on the final day.
