Coheed and Cambria this week released the first track from their forthcoming album for media to stream. The track, ‘The Afterman’, is a sprawling, stripped-back emotion filled piece that showcases the epic beauty Claudio Sanchez and Coheed and Cambria can produce alongside their moments of stadium sized raging thunder.
However, despite the grandiose scale of ‘The Afterman: Ascension’, Coheed and Cambria’s sixth studio album, Sanchez found inspiration for the double album (the second part of which will be released early 2013) on a much more personal level: the death of his wife's close friend.
"She found out about it through Facebook, which is the most impersonal way to receive this intensely personal news. Later that night, I sat down and just started writing a song. It became the album's title track, from the point of view of her experience. Everything else just followed from there."
Coheed & Cambria release ‘The Afterman: Ascension’ on October 8th via V2/Everything Evil.
