Example Opens Up About Wigan Twitter Abuse - And Some Of The Darker Moments In His Career

Singer-songwriter and rapper Example is one of the UK’s biggest stars at the moment, but after getting himself into a Twitter war with the whole of Wigan, he’s opened up about some of the darker times of his career, and some of the funnier 140-character comments he’s received.
After Example tweeted that there should be a block button ‘for the whole of Wigan’, he unsurprisingly got himself into a heated argument with the entire city (via Twitter), resulting in a number of ‘scathing’ tweets coming his way.
He told Metro: “It can be really scathing on Twitter – someone threatened to set me on fire. It’s across the board: ‘I hate you, you look like a monkey… I can’t believe you’re famous – you’re shit… I saw you on TV and you’re a wanker.’ For every comment like those, you get 20 nice ones. I don’t take it to heart.”
He then went on to talk about a time he got himself into a war with the crowd at a gig supporting The Rifles at Keele University - without doing anything other than performing. “The promoter asked me if I wanted to finish my set,” he confessed. “I went on and someone threw a bread roll at my head and a pound coin hit me on my tooth.”
He then revealed that the crowd literally turned on a fire alarm because they didn’t want to listen to him any longer - something which must be a blow for any up and comer.
At the end of the day, though, Example’s the one laughing now, and he probably won’t have time to think negatively on his February 2013 UK tour - which, unsurprisingly, doesn’t feature a stop in Wigan. If you’re a fan, check the dates and links below to find tickets.
