Footage Of Sir Paul McCartney And Nirvana's Performance At Hurricane Sandy Gig Surfaces - Watch Now

Footage of Sir Paul McCartney’s performance alongside ‘Nirvana’ at a charity gig in New York has surfaced online - you can check it out below.

ImageFans across the world were left surprised and shocked after it was revealed that the Beatles legend would be teaming up with Foo Fighters star and Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl and bass-player Krist Novoselic - as well as unofficial fourth member Pat Smear - to perform at charity gig 12-12-12: Concert for Sandy Relief.

Understandably, many fans were even upset at the decision, something that wasn’t helped by Macca’s admission that he ‘didn’t really know who [the band] were’ while working in the studio with them, having to be told that he was in fact filling Kurt Cobain’s shoes in a makeshift Nirvana.

But, despite the unsurprising concerns, Macca and co received a lot of positive reviews, and performed only new material that they’d come up with in the studio they’d secretly been using in the past couple of months.

Grohl - speaking to Fuse TV - said of the performance: “Tonight I played with Paul McCartney, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear. We did a song that we wrote together. It's a song that we wrote and recorded, no one has ever heard it before so nobody knows it exists.

“I think people were expecting us to do a Beatles song or a Nirvana song but when I first called Paul to see if he would come jam with us none of us wanted to do a Beatles song or a Nirvana song, we wanted to do a new song so we wrote and recorded a new song in a day and it's heavy as fuck.”

The concert also featured a range of other legendary musicians, including Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Eddie Vedder, Eric Clapton, Roger Waters, Kanye West, The Who, Billy Joel, a range of comedians and actors - and, of course, The Rolling Stones.

The whole event will be broadcast at 10pm on Sky Arts 1 and at 12 on Sky Arts 2 this evening (December 13th), so make sure you catch what was an incredible show. For now, you can check out Macca, Grohl, Novoselic, and Smear performing in the video below.
