Pro producer Lynx released his brand new single ’Dive Deep In’/’Shadowlands’ earlier this month, and has wasted no time in getting his next out too - with ‘Balloons’/’Passing Time’ hitting shelves today via Marcus Intalex’s Soul:R Recordings.
The single’s A-side is an incredibly bouncy, almost scarily upbeat number which I can 100% guarantee you won’t hear MC Skibadee shouting ‘WHO WANTS A RELOOAADDDD?!’ over in any raves near you.
This doesn’t mean it’s the kind of track that you don’t want to hear twice - it’s a cleverly created yet simple song that is more of an iTunes filler than a dancefloor killer. After a futuristic, bleep-and-bloop filled intro, a minimalistic track unfolds into shuffley breaks and deep basslines. You probably wouldn’t find an artist or producer who could own up to making this beat other than Lynx - a trait that can be seen with lots and perhaps most of his tracks.
The B-side - my favourite side - is a lot more like your standard drum and bass rollers, and is a beautiful piece of liquid featuring a suitably lush vocal sample and some wonderful piano fills. The track has been featuring in the sets of label boss Marcus Intalex and Irish drum and bass genius Calibre. A fitting end to 2012 for Soul:R indeed, and a fitting flipside to the maximum chillaxingness of the A.
