Freakish Accident Leaves Fisherman's Friends Singer And Tour Manager Dead

Iconic Cornish singing outfit Fisherman’s Friends were involved in a freakish unfortunate accident on Saturday night, which has left singer Trevor Gills and their tour manager Paul McMullen dead.

The 10-strong group, who have been performing their unique brand of sea shanties since 1995, were due to perform in Surrey’s G Live venue on Saturday (February 9th), but just hours before they were set to hit the stage, a massive steel door fell on McMullen.

The door left McMullen with serious leg injuries and despite paramedics rushing to the scene, they were tragically unable to save him. The door also hit singer Trevor Grills, leaving him with nasty head wounds and in a serious condition at hospital - he has also since died because of his injuries.

A statement from the band reads: “The Fisherman’s Friends are very touched and moved by all the concern and support shown for our friends Trevor (Grills) and Paul (McMullen). We'd like to express ours and Port Isaac's thanks to everyone for that. It is part and parcel of our Cornish communities to pull together one and all in such times and that is what we are doing.

“We are all deeply shocked and upset by the tragic loss of Paul McMullen, our dear friend and promoter: our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time. Paul was a great man and very much part of the Fisherman’s Friends family.

“Trevor was a much loved and valued friend to all of us and was an integral part of the Port Isaac community. He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Trevor's family at this very difficult time.”

Darcus Beese, president of Island Records, has said: “We are all deeply saddened at losing Trevor. The Fisherman's Friends are exactly that; lifelong partners in all they do and our thoughts and prayers go out to them and Trevor's family and friends.”

Stereoboard’s thoughts are also with Gill’s and McMullen’s friends and family - a freak accident such as this is a terribly unfortunate event that no-one ever likes to read about. RIP
