Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Chvrches, Peace, Django Django & More Confirmed For The Great Escape 2013

The UK's answer to South by South West (SXSW), a festival in Texas that is seen as the best in the world to promote new music, will be back again this year in the heart of Britain's south coast.

With it's proven history of showcasing and highlighting the best of upcoming music, Brighton's Great Escape has received such high accolades over the recent years, having firmly secured its place in the festival calender.

With the initial line-up being released last week, the countdown can begin in earnest, as revellers will soon be flocking to the seaside town for an urban festival.

An eclectic line-up as always has been published. So far, a smorgasbord of artists have been released, covering everything from the dreamy melodies of lo-fi group Unknown Mortal Orchestra, to the masterful dance-hall disc-jockey David Rodigan, who will be bringing his veteran sounds of dub reggae back to the south coast.

Scrufizzer, a London artist born in the scene of deprivation, violence and drugs has emerged as a success story from his poverty stricken streets. To most, this may seem like your conventional and clichéd background to a rapper, but his sound is innovative and highly contemporary. Rapping at 100 mph, he mixes a new wave of grime and hip hop; amalgamating sounds that are reminiscent to Skrillex and flowing like a young Dizzee Rascal. Tipped for a big year in 2013.

Chvrches are another tipped for 2013 by many. With electronically synthesised music being developed and introduced by most budding bands and artists at the moment, Chvrches, a three-piece band from Scotland are furthering this rhetoric.

With a dreamy voice from their lead singer, the group show a slight resemblance to Birmingham boys Peace, and fellow Scottish band Django Django, although slightly more relaxed and soothing. Something definitely to look out for on the festival line up.

The Bastille, who stormed the Great Escape in 2011 are back again to headline one of the night's at the incredible venue of the Brighton Dome. Their melodic story telling will no doubt be enticing the fans this year.

As well as the music, the festival offers many key note talks from prestigious characters in the music industry. Last year saw Rob da Bank and Michael Eavis visit the south coast, whereas this year, there will be talks from the CEO of Arts Council England, Alan Davey.

Stephen Godfroy will also be in to talk music and retail, a hot topic at the moment after the demise and closure of HMV. Godfroy will be in to talk about how he has managed to defy the odds with his company Rough Trade, strike a digital deal with the Guardian and this year will be opening a store in New York.

Many more artists are sure to be added to the line up between now and the start of the festival on May 16th. So keep in touch with Stereoboard for more news. Click Here to Compare & Buy The Great Escape Tickets.
