The Eighties Matchbox B Line Disaster Announce Split - Just One Year After Reforming

Monday, 13 May 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Brighton-based rockers The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster have announced that they’re splitting... again!

Known for their eclectic blend of indie, rock, ‘gothabilly’, and garage-punk, the band enjoyed mild success throughout the noughties, before splitting in 2011 after it’s members decided to pursue other musical projects.

The five-strong outfit only announced that they’d be reforming back in 2012, after their track ‘Chicken’ was used in a Nike Football advert - giving them a massive profile boost and a huge rise in popularity.

But one year on, and just days before a scheduled performance at their local Great Escape Festival, they’ve announced that they’re parting ways once again - as they can’t find a ‘shared musical common ground’.

The band were working on a brand new album, and also had a headline gig lined-up for Octoer, which would have seen them performing in London’s O2 Academy Islington. The news was broken via The Great Escape Festival’s Facebook page, who wrote:

“Today TGE HQ received the sad news that The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster has disbanded just days before they were due to bring the house down this Saturday at Coalition. According to a statement from the band, a shared musical common ground couldn’t be found and they apologise for any disappointment caused by cancelling upcoming shows.”
