Bloc Party To Enter Hiatus After Summer, According To Guitarist

Thursday, 13 June 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

British indie-rockers Bloc Party are to enter hiatus after headlining Latitude Festival next month, according to guitarist Russell Lissack.

The band released their latest record ‘Four’ last year (hitting #3 in the UK Albums chart) and have now got a summer of festival performances lined-up - culminating with their headline slot at Latitude Festival on July 19th, one of the biggest shows of their career. Speaking to National Post, Lissack has revealed what’s next for the band - and it appears a rest is long overdue!

“Definitely after we finish the festivals in the summer we'll be taking some time off. At least six months, maybe a year, maybe two years, it's hard to say. Once we start taking time off people start doing their own thing. So once people start doing things, then you'll start naturally extending how long we spend apart.”

Speaking of their last hiatus, which came between recent album ‘Four’ and their 2009 record ‘Intimacy’, Lissack said:

“The last record, 'Intimacy', when we toured that it was probably more lows than highs due to the relationships in the band not being very good and lack of communication and people not enjoying what we were doing. This time, before we set off on this record, it was something we discussed and I think we've been dealing with it a little better. Not a lot better but a little better.”

You can catch Bloc Party party performing in York a couple of days before their Latitude headline slot - a show which could be their last regular UK gig for a while. If you need tickets for that, check below - and for Latitude Festival tickets, click here!
