Bloc Party Announce Seventh Album 'Anatomy Of A Brief Romance' With Lead Single Coming On Strong

Bloc Party have laid out plans for their seventh studio album.
'Anatomy of a Brief Romance' is described as the British indie giants' most personal record to date and will arrive on September 11 as the first full-length release through new label cOnTAGIOUS LTD, in partnership with Virgin Music Group.
Produced by the legendary Trevor Horn, whose previous credits include Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys and Frankie Goes To Hollywood (to name a few), the 14-track abum is structured as a, "chronological portrait of a love affair, and progresses right from the first glances through to the heartbreak and final farewell."
It was written by frontman Kele Okereke after he separated from the father of his children following more than a decade together, and then unexpectedly met someone new and fell in love again. He explained: "Every lyric you're hearing on this record was something that actually happened to me. I had to tell the story, from start to finish. Having this romance, this new thing emerge, it kept me sane, in a very dark time."
As a preview, the band have shared the album's first single, Coming On Strong, which is built on driving percussion and a swirling, looping guitar riff and explores the emotions that come with meeting someone new.
"It's that feeling of, I've had my eye on this person for a while, and then we're finally in a situation where we can be something to each other. And that's such a seductive feeling," Okereke revealed. "You’re not seeing their problems, and they’re not seeing yours. You’re just getting ready for the ride.” He added: "I like the fact that harmonically and musically, it feels dark, sinister, like something is creeping up."
Okereke felt compelled to write and release the album: "When I finished singing the words about him, I did feel a sense of relief. I felt like, okay, you can put this all somewhere now, and it doesn't have to eat you up any more." By the end of the record, he descibes it as a manual for heartbreak, a guide for if, or when, it happens again:
“It is a document, for me, and for other people. Love isn't just good times, it's bad times, too. And you look at it and document it, don't you? You try to understand it, in that way."
Bloc Party will tour North America supporting Muse in July, followed by co-headline UK and European dates with Interpol in November and December. Tickets are on sale now.
They released their latest album, 'Alpha Games', and its deluxe edition, in 2022. They also put out the 'A Weekend in the City B-Sides' collection in 2024, as well as a 20th anniversary deluxe reissue of their debut album 'Silent Alarm' in 2025. That same year, Okereke released his latest solo record, 'The Singing Winds Pt. 3'.
