2000trees Approaches Once More... (Festival Preview)

Wednesday, 19 June 2013 Written by Ben Bland

It’s no secret that here at Stereoboard we’re big fans of 2000trees, not just for its consistently high standard of line-up but also from the way it’s run. This is a festival run for the sheer love of live music and of supporting the best up-and-coming British bands.

The line-up is obviously pretty special. You can tell that the selection of bands this year has been a painstaking labour of love as always. From the big names (biggest ever Trees headliners Frank Turner and Mystery Jets) to the unknowns (the vicious Grappler and the bafflingly brilliant Emperor Yes) this is a line-up with real strength in depth, as opposed to the “get a few big names and then throw in whoever’s got a half-decent review in the NME over the last few months” approach of certain larger events.

Across four stages there is a staggeringly diverse range of acts. Post-hardcore legends Funeral for a Friend rub shoulders with folksters Stornoway on the Main Stage. Math rockers Adebisi Shank and riff monsters Black Moth are equally at home in The Cave and The Leaf Lounge features a breadth of artists from the obtuse The Physics House Band to straight-up songsmiths like Childhood. The Greenhouse, meanwhile, will feature takeovers from UK independent labels Xtra Mile and Alcopop on the Friday and Saturday respectively, resulting in intimate acoustic sets from the likes of Ben Marwood and My First Tooth.

It’s not just the line-up that makes 2000trees a must attend event however. The weekend comes backed with an astonishingly high quality, and diverse, range of food and drink. This is a festival that takes things seriously. Instead of overpriced slimy burgers there’s an onsite smokery and mouth-watering pies. Instead of warm Carlsberg and sickly Kopparberg there’s excellent ale offerings from the Cotswold Brewing Company and deadly local cider in the form of the legendary Badger’s Bottom.

If that’s not enough to convince you there is also avid opportunity to have a good time outside the, admittedly spacious, “confines” of the music. Saturday is fancy dress day and an eighties movies style theme will take hold of Upcote Farm for the day. Prizes will be awarded, and crowd-surfing in silly costumes is very much encouraged, given that it has become a highlight of recent years at the festival!

So, with just under a month to go until 200trees 2013 kicks off we are pleased to be able to inform you that tickets are still available; why not join us there? If you need further persuasion as to how good 2000trees can be check out our reviews of the previous festivals and look online for other glowing reports. All that’s needed to make this year’s event even better than last year is some sunshine... Our fingers are crossed.

2000trees takes place at Withington Farm near Cheltenham from 11 to 13 July 2013 although the Thursday night early entry tickets are now sold out. Weekend tickets are available for just £72.
