Johnny Borrell Admits He Was Obnoxious During Razorlight Years

Tuesday, 09 July 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Johnny Borrell - frontman of indie-rockers Razorlight - has confessed that he was ‘obnoxious’ during his time with Razorlight, ahead of the release of his first solo album ‘Borrell 1’.

Though he has enjoyed major success with the band, he’s long been a figure of controversy, and holds a reputation of being someone who rates himself rather highly - he was often seen blowing his own trumpet in the press (not literally!). But now, he admits he probably was obnoxious - and claimed that he only bigged himself up so often because he thought that’s what rockstars should do!

Asked about the band’s success - particularly after their chart-topping eponymous 2006 album - he told The Telegraph:

“It just went boom. And suddenly we’re on a world tour for two-and-a-half years. And you come back and you’re the high street Everything you’ve spent your whole life working against, you are it. I guess I was constantly attempting to be what I thought I should be doing in that scenario. To be fair, I’m sure there were times when I was obnoxious. But that’s rock’n’roll, you know?”

Borrell recently unveiled the music video for his solo albums lead single ‘Pan-European Supermodel Song (Oh! Gina)’ - you can check out our coverage of it here, or watch it using the embedded player below!
