Welsh rock icons Manic Street Preachers have revealed that one of the tracks from their forthcoming new album ‘Rewind the Film’ is an ‘angry’ anti-Thatcher song, which they penned long before the former prime minister died earlier this year.
The band announced a brand new album, single and tour at the start of the week, and now, they’ve opened up about some of the new record’s material.
“It starts with the miners' strike and moves through Hillsborough, and it's a critique of the attack on the working classes over the last 30 years. It's the most spiteful, angry track on the album, and it's almost the link to the other record - it sounds like 'Lodger' era Bowie.”
Wire also talked about the second album the band have been working on, which will see a release just six months or so after ‘Rewind the Film’.
“I think by next March or April, we'll have it all ready. It's not just chucking something out; it's really fully formed. It's the next step on from 'The Holy Bible' and 'Journal For Plague Lovers'. It's quite intense but synthetic as well.”
The Manics will release their new record on September 16, with the tour kicking off at the Newport Centre three days earlier. If you need Manic Street Preachers tickets, check the dates and links provided below to find a pair through Stereoboard!
