Rolf Harris Charged With 13 Child Sex Offences

Thursday, 29 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Rolf Harris has been charged with 13 child sex offences, in the latest chapter of Operation Yewtree.

We reported earlier this year that Harris had been arrested in the operation, and the entertainer and TV personality was also re-arrested earlier this month as the investigation continued. Harris has been charged with a total of 13 child sex offences, nine counts of indecent assault on a minor and four counts of producing indecent images of children.

The 83-year-old, who is an Commander of the Order of the British Empire and features in the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame, will appear at the Westminster Magistrates Court on September 23 to face trial.

According to reports, six of Harris’ nine indecent assault charges are alleged to have occurred between 1980 and 1981 and involve a 15/16-year old girl. The remaining three concern charges against a 14-year-old girl in 1986. The indecent images, however, are believed to have been created between March and July 2012.

Alison Saunders of the Crown Prosecution Service has commented:

“Having completed our review, we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Mr Harris to be charged with nine counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images of a child.”
