The 1975 Cover One Direction For Radio 1 Live Lounge - Listen Here

Thursday, 05 September 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Manchester rockers The 1975 have performed one of the year’s unlikeliest covers, a guitar-filled rendition of One Direction’s That’s What Makes You Beautiful.

Recorded for the much-loved BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge series, the cover sees frontman Matthew Healy and co. giving their own take on the massive teen-pop hit, which was the boyband’s first proper studio single and also their first UK #1.

The 1975 are currently promoting their brand new, eponymous debut album, which hit shelves earlier this week on Monday September 2 and become Zane Lowe’s Album of the Week. ‘The 1975’ currently tops the midweek charts, ahead of Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Hesitation Marks’ and Rizzle Kicks’ ‘Roaring 20s’. Check out what Healy had to say about it:

“This album is the soundtrack to our formative years. The culmination of our adolescence and the cornerstone of our material thus far. That’s exactly what it is. I dunno exactly how I feel about releasing this album, the fact that it’s such a personal statement and creation hinders me from having an objective opinion.

“All I know is that it’s an uncompromising and honest depiction of who we are and what we’re about and I’m very proud that we’ve had the opportunity to make an album like that.”

The 1D cover has already racked up 60,000+ views on YouTube and is already drawing some intense comments:

“I cried within the first few notes, because this is just amazing. And shoot me, but it's better than the original.”

Twitter is full of love for the track too.

The 1975 are hitting the road for a lengthy UK tour throughout September, as well as dates in early 2014. If One Direction are more your thing, click here to compare and buy tickets for their massive 2014 UK stadium tour.
