Glee Star Cory Monteith Died Of Alcohol And Heroin Overdose, Coroner Confirms

Thursday, 03 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Glee star Cory Monteith died of a heroin and alcohol overdose, a coroner has confirmed.

The actor and musician, who played the role of Finn Hudson on the hit musically-themed television series, died on July 13 earlier this year to the shock and dismay of fans across the world.

At the time, his cause of death was unknown, though having been found with a hyperdermic needle, a spoon covered in residue, and a load of champagne bottles and glasses, it seemed more than likely that drink and drugs played a big role.

Now, it has been confirmed by a coroner in his report that it was indeed an overdose of Class A/Schedule I drug heroin and alcohol that caused Monteith's death.

According to the BBC, the official report lists his death as ‘accidental’, and added that his irregular use of heroin may have been a big factor - it states that ‘after a period of cessation from opioid drug use, a previously tolerated drug concentration level may become toxic and fatal’.
