Laura Mvula Favourite For 2013 Mercury Prize

Wednesday, 30 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

British soul star Laura Mvula is favourite to win the Mercury Prize tonight, according to the latest odds.

The 27-year old hit the Top 10 with her debut album ‘Singing to the Moon’ earlier this year in March, and the album could be set to reap further rewards tonight as bookies such as William Hill, Paddy Power, and Ladbrokes have put her in poll position for the Mercury Prize 2013.

Paddy Power, in fact, have put her at evens to win the award, while the other two both rate her as 6/5 and 11/10 respectively. Arctic Monkeys’ ‘AM’ seems to be the second favourite, while Foals and Disclosure fight for the 3rd and 4th positions in the rankings. David Bowie completes the Top 5 favourites.

You can check out the full list of nominated albums below.

Rudimental - 'Home'
Foals - 'Holy Fire'
Jon Hopkins - 'Immunity'
Jake Bugg - 'Jake Bugg'
Laura Mvula - 'Sing To The Moon'
Villagers - 'Awayland'
David Bowie - 'The Next Day'
Savages - 'Silence Yourself'
Disclosure - 'Settle'
Laura Marling - 'Once I Was An Eagle'
James Blake - 'Overgrown'
Arctic Monkeys - 'AM'

The Barclaycard Mercury Prize ceremony takes place at Camden’s Roundhouse in London tonight and Mvula - despite being a few hundred thousand sales short of the likes of Arctic Monkeys and David Bowie - could be set for a surprise victory.
