Edinburgh Picture House To Close

Tuesday, 17 December 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Edinburgh’s Picture House will close as a live music venue in January.

The venue, which will host the Wonder Stuff and the View (pictured) before closing, has been bought by JD Wetherspoon. In a statement, MAMA & Company, the current owners, said:

"Following our official media announcement made on Thursday 12 Dec 2013, please note that The Picture House is due to be sold to JD Wetherspoon on 6 January 2014. All events prior to and including 31 December 2013 will take place as planned.

"The new owners are expected to close for refurbishment immediately and are not expected to re-open the premises as a live music venue. If you have made a booking for an event that is due to take place in 2014, please retain your ticket or order confirmation and you will be contacted in due course with further details about the event. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the public, the venue staff, the promoters, and all the great artists who have graced the stage over the last five years for their support."

The Picture House had been due to host Adam Ant, Miles Kane, Asking Alexandria, Adam Ant and Nina Nesbitt, among others, in 2014.
