Beyoncé has broken iTunes sales records with her self-titled surprise album, according to the music retailer and the singer's label, Columbia.
Arriving unannounced in iTunes on Friday morning, the record has sold 828,773 copies through its first three days, with the album not currently available in physical formats. Announcing the record, Beyoncé said:
“I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it. I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”
‘Beyoncé’ arrived just in time for her massive February and March UK tour, to which she added a series of new dates - in London, Birmingham and Manchester - due to demand on Monday.
