Justin Timberlake is back with a thunderclap-sized bang, having followed up his ‘20/20 Experience’ collection with a UK arena tour and Brand New, a stunning collaboration with Pharrell Williams on the super producer’s recent ‘GIRL’ album.
The former N-Sync man’s discography was already punctuated by more A-list names than you can shake a stick at, but he appears to be in a constant state of phone-melting demand.
In celebration of his Brand New step and ongoing UK tour, here are our picks of Timberlake's greatest collaborations to date.
Ayo Technology with 50 Cent and Timbaland
Released in 2007 and taken from 50 Cent’s ‘Curtis’ album, this oddball, sci-fi scatter-star of a production from Timbaland instantly made this one of the most intriguing songs Timberlake has ever appeared on. It showcased the producer as a future-thinking talent as well as a hit-making one and it is certainly one of the best things 50 Cent has ever put his name to.
Suit And Tie with Jay Z
One of two Jay Z collaborations released in 2013 (the other being Holy Grail from Jigga’s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ album), Suit and Tie marked Timberlake’s solo comeback in spectacular fashion (in both senses of the word). An ode to being “handsome and well-dressed”, it was performed on Saturday Night Live with Timberlake suitably, erm, well-dressed.
Signs with Snoop Dogg and Charlie Wilson
Back in 2005, Snoop made his most dance-friendly moves yet, when he teamed up with Timberlake for this pop banger. The Neptunes handled production duties and you could tell – it was a dancefloor filler that seemed a touch out of place on Snoop’s album ‘R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta: The Masterpiece)’ but felt just perfect for the disco-slide moves of JT.
Four Minutes with Madonna
Madge chose to herald her 11th studio album, ‘Hard Candy’, in 2008 with this number, which once again featured Timbaland. With lyrics revolving around the end of the world (and how you can cut a rug trying to save it), it was one of Madonna’s more successful collaborations of recent years. The video, which saw Timberlake being devoured by a weird black mass, was pretty good too.
3-Way (The Golden Rule) with the Lonely Island and Lady Gaga
Being a big fan of carnal humour, Timberlake has collaborated with jock-joke gang the Lonely Island a number of times, first in 2006 on Dick In A Box then in 2011 on Motherlover, before this sequel came out later in the same year. The song revolves around Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Andy Samberg and the titular three way, and is one of the more genuinely funny moments the gang have come up with. Look out for Patricia Clarkson and Susan Sarandon reprising their roles from the Motherlover video here, too.
