AC/DC have released a statement, responding to rumours that they are set to retire and confirming that guitarist Malcom Young is to step back from the band due to ill health.

In response to a recent flurry of speculation that the legendary hard rock band were due to retire, a statement posted to the band's official website reads:

"After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support.

"In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music."

AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson recently revealed that the band are "definitely getting together in May" for studio sessions in Vancouver.
