Joan Rivers Dies Aged 81

Friday, 05 September 2014 Written by Huw Baines

Joan Rivers, the famously acerbic comedian, has died aged 81.

Rivers died at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital on Thursday, having suffered a cardiac arrest during an outpatient procedure last week.

In a statement, her daughter, Melissa, said: "My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."

Rivers had been due to perform a string of UK shows, including two nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall, next month.
