Bikini Kill Share Previously Unreleased Ocean Song

Wednesday, 02 September 2015 Written by Laura Johnson

Bikini Kill have shared Ocean Song, one of three previously unreleased tracks that will feature on the reissue of 'Revolution Girl Style Now'.

The remastered demo, which was originally released on cassette in 1991, is due September 22. In addition to Ocean Song, which you can check out below, the record will feature unreleased cuts Playground, shared by the band in August, and Just Once.

The demo will be pressed to vinyl, as well as getting a CD and digital release. A limited number of tapes will also be produced for mail order. Mixing duties for the reissue were handled by Guy Picciotto of Fugazi.

Discussing Ocean Song with the New York Times, Kathleen Hanna said:

“To hear this material kind of shows the link that we had to the Northwest and to the music scene there; I really love that, because I feel like a lot of times, that gets lost,” Hanna says. “It’s kind of written about like, ‘these freak feminist anomalies who sprung up out of nowhere.’ We actually were friends with people in so-called grunge bands, even though nobody called themselves grunge bands.”
