Jess Abbott has enlisted Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis for Tancred’s Pens video.
Lifted from Abbott’s recent LP on Polyvinyl, ‘Out of the Garden’, the video is a twist on horror tropes directed by Andrew Weinberg and Nicole Kugel. Check it out below following its premiere over at NPR.
“I based the video treatment entirely on the lyrics,” Abbott said. “I wanted to have my plain reality be slowly overcome by this shadowy underworld. I wanted evil to seem really seductive and take me with it. But evil is still evil no matter how sexy it is so I still needed to die at the end.
“The directors, Adam and Nicole, created the abstract shots. We had a lot of calls about horror movies and shows, and of course we were writing this when Stranger Things came out so we were all inspired by the visuals in it.”
Tancred will open for Into It. Over It. in the UK later this year.
