The track is taken from the Reading quartet's debut album, 'Youth Is Only Ever Fun In Retrospect’, which is due to arrive on January 6 through RCA/Chess Club Records.
Explaining how Plato's Allegory of the Cave played a part in inspiring the song, lead singer Oscar Pollock said:
“Ever since I heard that story I thought it was crazy, especially how old and relevant it still is.
We’re told that happiness will come from buying more shit or that you’re inadequate, from adverts, that you need to buy the new best thing in order to feel better. It’s really fucked up and there’s definitely some shady shit behind power. For me it’s so obvious what’s wrong with the world at the moment and what the solutions would be – improving education for example, and taxing companies that have committed crimes. I don’t understand why those things aren’t happening. There must be some dodgy shit going on if these obvious things aren’t being addressed.”
Next week the band will hit the road with Izzy Bizu and Spring King for the North America BBC Introducing Tour. Following this they will return to support Two Door Cinema Club on their UK tour between January 24 and February 10.
Sundara Karma will embark on a headline UK tour in February. They will call in Birmingham, Liverpool, Sheffield, Northumbria, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Reading, Leicester, Portsmouth, Cardiff and London, where they'll play the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire. Tickets are on sale now, priced between £11.00 and £14.00, plus fees.
