Ray BLK has won the BBC Sound of 2017.

The alt-R&B newcomer joins a list of previous winners including Years & Years, Sam Smith, Adele, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J and last year's winner Jack Garratt.

Nadia Rose, the London rapper, took fifth place in the poll, with soul singer Jorja Smith coming in fourth, electro artist RAYE taking third place and Brits Critics' Choice winner Rag N Bone Man placing second.

In a statement about the win, Ray said:

"Winning the BBC sound of 2017 has to be the most surprising thing that's happened to me thus far. I feel so honoured to have topped the list this early in my career and join such an incredible alumni of winners. Thank you so much to the BBC and all the voters! I'm particularly proud to be a part of this years list as its full of so much talent, some of whom are independent artists like myself which I really hope inspires the next generation of artists."

To celebrate she's released a new track, Patience (Freestyle), which you can listen to below.

Ray BLK is set to play London’s Village Underground in February.

Ray BLK Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows:

Mon February 27 2017 - LONDON Village Underground
