Sister Sledge's Joni Sledge has died aged 60.

A statement from the family confirmed that Sledge died from natural causes arising from complications from a pre-existing condition.

Sister Sledge formed in 1971 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Originally consisting of sisters Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy Sledge, but more recently performing as a trio, the disco group, probably best known for their We Are Family single, had a career spanning more than four decades and had numerous shows lined up for the coming months, including stops in LA, Las Vegas, Switzerland, Edinburgh and London.

Since the news was announced tributes from throughout the music industry have surfaced, including Nile Rodgers, who wrote and produced the sisters' 'We Are Family' album, alongside Chic's Bernard Edwards.
