Country Star Glen Campbell Dies Aged 81

Wednesday, 09 August 2017 Written by Laura Johnson

Country star Glen Campbell has died aged 81.

In a statement released online late last night, Campbell's family announced that he had died "following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease".

Campbell's career spanned six decades and included the hits Rhinestone Cowboy, Wichita Lineman and Southern Nights. In June he released his final album, 'Adios', which was recorded soon after his Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2011.

The album features covers of Harry Nilsson's Everybody's Talkin, Bob Dylan's Don't Think Twice, It's All Right and Adiós, made popular by Linda Ronstadt.

Since the news of the star's death was confirmed tributes from the music world have appeared online, including posts from Dolly Parton, Brian Wilson, Ringo Starr and his daughter Ashley.
