Can Bassist And Co-Founder Holger Czukay Dies Aged 79

Wednesday, 06 September 2017 Written by Huw Baines

Holger Czukay, co-founder of the experimental rock band Can, has died aged 79.

The bassist helped form the hugely influential group in Cologne in 1968 and was an instrumental figure in their output, engineering many of their records. He left Can in 1977, prior to the release of ‘Out of Reach’, and pursued a varied solo career.

His death was reported by the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper. Mute Records, with whom he released several albums, paid tribute on Twitter: “Can't think of anything coherent to say, particularly on twitter, dearest Mr Czukay, you'll be missed so much. Hilarious genius.”
