R.E.M's Peter Buck And Joseph Arthur Announce New Band Arthur Buck

Friday, 16 February 2018 Written by Jon Stickler

Peter Buck and Joseph Arthur have formed a new band.

After a chance meeting in Todos Santos, Mexico led to a jam sessions between the two, the R.E.M co-founder, guitarist, songwriter and singer have put together eight songs for their debut album, which is set to arrive later this year through New West Records. Speaking about the run-in with Arthur to Rolling Stone, Buck said:

"Joe shows up in Mexico – the kind of guy where he's carrying every single thing he owns on his back – and then all this stuff started occurring.

"It was really spontaneous and kind of magical in its own way, as (being in Mexico) we were kind of disconnected from everything.

"Joe is going through that searching period we all go through in life. And those experiences he's having make this a very forward-looking record, lyrically. The music has a questing kind of feel. We were making it up as we went along."

This new project follows Buck's collaborative album with Filthy Friends, 'Invitation', and Arthur’s solo album, both of which arrived last summer.

In addition, Arthur Buck have promised tour dates in North America and Europe with details to be announced in due course.
