As It Is Share Latest Taster of 'The Great Depression' With The Fire, The Dark

Friday, 03 August 2018 Written by Huw Baines

As It Is have shared another new song prior to the release of ‘The Great Depression'.

The Brighton band’s third album is expected on August 10 through Fearless Records, with The Fire, The Dark serving as the latest taster of what to expect from the concept-heavy release. Co-written with Larry Hibbitt of UK post-hardcore heroes Hundred Reasons, it’s a muscular rocker underpinned by Patrick Foley’s thunderous drumming.

“The Fire, The Dark is about self-destruction,” vocalist Patty Walters said. “Weighed down by his regrets and resentments, The Poet turns to habits of self-destruction as a coping mechanism, isolated and completely withdrawn from the world, neurotic and unstable, consequently jeopardising his relationship with his wife."

As It Is will support the album's release with a UK tour in November.

As It Is Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows:

Sun November 25 2018 - BRISTOL Thekla
Mon November 26 2018 - EDINBURGH Liquid Room
Wed November 28 2018 - MANCHESTER O2 Ritz
Thu November 29 2018 - BIRMINGHAM O2 Institute

td#right {display:none !important;} Illustration: Samuel Davies There’s this great indie-rock song going around called Hope You Like Getting Old. It’s by the Seattle band Subways on the Sun and its video is full of stuff that used to clutter my shelves when I was a kid - a VHS copy of The Empire Strikes Back, an Optimus Prime figure, a lava lamp like the one my girlfriend got me for my 17th birthday. Watching it is to submit to that addictive, rose-tinted sadness that’s so hot right now. It’s Proust with power chords.

After all, why should we be impressed by the execution of dog-eared blueprints?
Deaf Havana - Rituals (Album Review)
Mon 20 Aug 2018
The intro to Deaf Havana’s ‘Rituals’ is a short ambient piece called Wake but, in truth, they might well have kicked things off with John Williams’ ominous theme music from the film Jaws. Having turned their back on everything that made them one of Britain’s finest young bands, the five piece have totally and utterly jumped the shark here.
