The lead singer of Talk Talk, Mark Hollis, has died aged 64.
The news was confirmed via the band’s long term manager, Keith Aspden, who said:
"Sadly it's true. Mark has died after a short illness from which he never recovered. I can’t tell you how much Mark influenced and changed my perceptions on art and music. I’m grateful for the time I spent with him and for the gentle beauty he shared with us."
Talk Talk made their mark in the 1980s with the pop singles Talk Talk, It’s My Life and Such A Shame, before moving into more art-rock and post-rock experimentalism. Hollis was widely regarded as a pioneer of the genre, and released a self-titled solo album in 1998, then removed himself from the public eye to spend time with his family.
Talk Talk bassist Paul Webb paid his respects in a social media post.
