Sleeper Announce Co-Headline Summer Tour With The Bluetones And 'Smart' 25th Anniversary Reissue

Wednesday, 12 February 2020 Written by Jon Stickler

Sleeper and the Bluetones will tour the UK together this summer.

Sleeper will perform their 1995 debut album 'Smart' in full at venues in Glasgow, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds, Bournemouth, Bristol, Manchester and London during August and September, while the Bluetones will play their 1996 LP 'Expecting To Fly'.

As well as performing their classic albums in full, the bands will also perform a set of greatest hits from their back catalogue. Pre-sale tickets are available at 10am on February 13, prior to general sale at 10am on February 14.

Alongside the tour dates, Sleeper have revealed theat they'll put out a a deluxe reissue of 'Smart' on June 5, available for the first time on coloured vinyl and complete with 10 additional b-sides and rarities from the 'Smart' sessions. Singer Louise Wener said:

"We can't believe it's 25 years since 'Smart' was released. On the day it came out we all jumped on the 73 bus to HMV Oxford Street to see the giant window display. Andy and Jon got a bollocking from staff for putting the vinyl at Number 1 in the racks - by Saturday it ended up at Number 5 - still a totally surreal feeling. We cannot wait to play this record in full and take it out on tour."

Sleeper split in 1998 and reunited in 2017 for a handful of UK gigs as part of the Star Shaped Festival. In 2018 they put out their first album in 21 years, 'The Modern Age'.
