Chvrches' Lauren Mayberry Shares Debut Solo Single Are You Awake?

Chvrches' Lauren Mayberry has shared her debut single as a solo artist.
Titled Are You Awake?, the stripped back piano ballad was co-written alongside Tobias Jesso Jr., with Matthew Koma producing and Mark "Spike" Stent mixing.
A radical departure from the signature synth-pop sound of her band Chvrches, it shows off the Scottish artist's vocal prowess. She said in a statement:
"Are You Awake? is a song that started on a rainy day last December with Tobias Jesso Jr. I was thinking a lot about loneliness and homesickness, and as soon as Tobias started playing the chords, the lyrics and melody came to me really quickly. I finished the song with my friend Matthew Koma, who really understood what I was trying to say."
Mayberry continued, "For a long time, I couldn't imagine doing anything outside of Chvrches but I think some things that I needed to write had to be done from purely my own point of view. I never really thought I'd write a piano ballad, or a solo album full stop, so life really is full of surprises. I am really looking forward to this chapter and can’t wait for people to hear more of the music."
Mayberry will kick off her first solo tour with a run of North American shows beginning next week. She also has UK and European dates in the diary for October. Tickets are on sale.
Chvrches, meanwhile, will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album, 'The Bones Of What You Believe', with a special edition reissue on October 13 via Universal Music Recordings.
In August, they shared a remix of Death Cab For Cutie's new single, An Arrow In The Wall. Their most recent album, 'Screen Violence', was released in 2021.
