The Dandy Warhols Enlist Frank Black Of Pixies For New Track Danzig With Myself

Tuesday, 16 January 2024 Written by Jon Stickler

The Dandy Warhols have shared a new track, Danzig With Myself.

The collaboration with Pixies icon Frank Black serves as the latest preview of the alt-rock band's new studio album, 'Rockmaker', due out on March 15 via Sunset Blvd. Records.

"It started with a riff that either sounded like Misfits or Danzig and then got slowed down," explained frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor. "Over time, it became the working title, and then we couldn’t change it. I mean, come on… Danzig with Myself?!"

Speaking on how the link-up with Black came about, he added: "I was just checking in with him, and he happened to be in Zürich. I hooked him and some of his family up with some very interesting museum tours first, then I asked him if he would play on our record. Of course, he did!"

Sludgy, with a deep distorted bassline that contrasts with Black's fuzzy falsetto backing vocals, it follows September single Summer Of Hate in previewing the LP, which is mixed by Jagz Kooner and mastered by Keith Tenniswood.

"Sometimes we have a very focused idea of what we want," Taylor-Taylor continued. "It’s generally what we want somebody else to make but since they never do, we have to. It has a very specific sound. There aren’t a lot of heavy guitar records currently coming out that we like, so that was the impetus for 'Rockmaker'.

The Dandy Warhols' latest album is 2020's 'Tafelmuzik Means More When You're Alone', which clocks in at over three and a half hours.

Taylor-Taylor concluded: "'Rockmaker' is the manifestation of our desire to hear a record of heavy raw punk and metal guitar riffs handled in a way that we felt was cooler or sexier but has its own alley."

The Dandy Warhols will support the record with a North American tour in March, before a return to Australia and New Zealand in April and May. Tickets are on sale now.
