Maribou State will release their third studio album early next year.
'Hallucinating Love' will arrive via Ninja Tune on January 31, following up 2018's 'Kingdoms In Colour', its subsequent remix edition the following year, and the 'Fabric Presents Maribou State (DJ Mix)' in 2020.
It comes after a difficult period for the electronic duo, with Chris Davids suffering from chronic insomnia and tackling an ADHD diagnosis, as well as undergoing a major operation for a rare brain condition in late 2023, and Liam Ivory developing crippling anxiety, on top of the struggles brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. Ivory said:
"There was a massive fallout from us touring the world and then as soon as we finished, being locked down. Our mental health plummeted."
Commenting on the creative motivation behind the new record, he continued: "When we were writing, we were imagining how great it’d feel to finally be back onstage, bringing people together again."
Davids, meanwhile, stated that it's, "about being in a dark place, a place of struggle, and then looking forward to bright futures…"
Alongside news of the record comes their new single, Otherside, which features soaring vocals from their long-time collaborator Holly Walker among intricate electronic melodies and live instrumentation.
The new song follows on from the lead single, Blackoak, which was released back in summer 2023, and is not the only guest appearance, as also contributing guest vocals to the record are Andreya Triana, North Downs and Gaidaa.
Maribou State will play a sold-out show at the Islington Assembly Hall in London on November 27. They have also announced a huge London show for 2025, playing Alexandra Palace on February 14. Tickets for that gig go on general sale at 10am on October 11.
