5 Seconds Of Summer have announced a new album.
Following some cryptic uploads on social media within the last 24 hours, the Australian pop-rock band have confirmed 'Everyone's A Star!' will arrive on November 14. It will follow up their fifth studio album, 2022’s ‘5SOS5’, and third live LP, 2023’s ‘The Feeling of Falling Upwards (Live from The Royal Albert Hall)’.
The record came together earlier this year and in 2024, with the group recording in both Los Angeles and Nashville with the likes of Jason Evigan (who's worked with Maroon 5, Benson Boone, Papa Roach, Rüfüs Du Sol), Julian Bunetta and John Ryan (Sabrina Carpenter, Teddy Swims). Vocalist-guitarist Luke Hemmings said:
“This band is made of four people who could all have their own solo albums where they do it all, sing it all, and write it all. Everyone’s A Star! embodies all of that. We were teenagers at the beginning of 5 Seconds of Summer. We were writing with more naivete, but we said what we were thinking. As time goes on, you tend to get a bit more cautious about what you say, but I think this record has more of our original sprit—but with 15 years of wisdom and a dash of reckless abandon.”
As a preview of the new record, 5SOS have shared its first single, NOT OK, a genre-blurring, earworm track. Check it out below alongside the album's artwork and tracklist. Hemmings commented:
“It has the older 5 Seconds of Summer energy, but it’s different—which is the whole M.O. of this chapter. Lyrically, it’s about letting out the darker side of yourself and embracing it. The song is also a nod to the band itself. We pull those sides out of each other.”
In the time since their previous records, all members have explored solo projects. Calum Hood released his debut solo album, ‘ORDER Chaos ORDER’, in June and Michael Clifford put out his, ‘Sidequest’, in July.
Ashton Irwin, meanwhile, released his second solo LP, 'Blood On The Drums', in 2024, and Hemmings shared his second solo record 'Boy' that same year.
