Snail Mail has returned with news of her third album.
'Ricochet' will arrive through Matador Records on March 27, marking singer-songwriter and guitarist Lindsey Jordan's first full-length release in five years, following 2021's 'Valentine' and 2023's 'Valentine (Demos)' EP.
Written during a time of change for Jordan — including a move from New York City to North Carolina — the album's 11 songs explore themes of time, loss, and the fear of watching things you love slip away, reflecting on worry, acceptance, and the fact that life goes on.
Recorded with producer and bassist Aron Kobayashi Ritch (Momma) at Fidelitorium Recordings in North Carolina, and Nightfly and Studio G in Brooklyn, it sees Jordan taking a different approach to her creative process, allowing her more room to create the expansive melodies on the record.
"I've never done this before, but I wrote all of the instrumentals and vocal melodies on the piano or guitar, and then I filled in the lyrics all at once over a year," she explained.
To coincide with the album's announcement, Jordan has released the first single, Dead End, a guitar-driven '90s alt-rock-inspired track. Head below to view the accompanying video she co-directed with Elsie Richter. Jordan said:
"We shot the video for Dead End in random places all around rural North Carolina between the hours of 5pm and 4am on one of the coldest nights of my life. The goal was to be inconspicuous with the fireworks, but someone called the cops on us."
Snail Mail will return to the UK for a performance at London's Electric Ballroom on June 25, following a North American tour in the spring. Tickets go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (January 23).
