Alfie Boe has confirmed the release date for his new album.
The Tony Award-winning, UK chart-topping tenor will release 'Face Myself', his first album of mostly self-penned material, on April 10.
Produced by MyRiot — known for his work with London Grammar and Primal Scream — the album draws on the vocalist's Northern upbringing, moving beyond his classical and theatrical roots to explore personal moments from his childhood and youth with vulnerability previously unseen in his career. He explained:
"I thought, ‘what is it about me that I have to face?’ For me, it was a number of moments in the past - my childhood, my teenage years. What got me to where I am today, my personal life. And that reflects in other songs on the album. It's been a really important lesson for me to face myself and realise who I am as an artist now and connect with that. I'm just writing from the heart and believing in what I'm saying and telling my story. Hopefully it can connect with other people and their memories and they can reflect on themselves too."
Alongside the announcement, Boe has released the album's opening track, Meanwhile Gardens, a heartfelt song that blends reflective lyrics about resilience and the pursuit of a more simple, grounded existence with gentle acoustic instrumentation. He shared: "Ultimately, the song is about trusting someone close to you and asking them to believe in you. It’s about saying: ‘Let’s live our dreams together, let’s plant them, and let's travel down that road hand-in-hand.'"
Expanding on the song's title, he continued: "It’s a small garden near where we were recording in West London. We wanted a connection to that sense of simplicity. To ‘plant our dreams’ there means to sit on a bench, take a moment to think and dream. You can do that in any garden or park, just by taking a moment for yourself."
Boe will support the album with the previously announced Facing Myself Tour across the UK this spring. He also has four Australian shows scheduled for June and a performance at The Courtyard at Herefordshire's Centre for the Arts in August. Tickets are on sale.
'Face Myself' follows Boe's last solo LP, 2023's 'Open Arms - The Symphonic Songbook', and his 2024 joint album with Michael Ball, 'Together At Home'. Last October, he collaborated with rising singer-songwriter Jessica Sweetman for the single Broken Perfect Love.
