Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) and Sonic Boom (Pete Kember) have announced a new collaborative album.

'A ? of WHEN' will arrive on July 10, following 2022’s 'Reset' and its two alternate versions, 'Reset In Dub' and the 'Reset Mariachi' EP. It'll be released on vinyl, CD, cassette and download via Domino Mart and Bandcamp, but not on streaming platforms, as the duo explain:

"Change. Exciting & frightening at the same time. The slow slips and the big shifts. Highs and lows from the distraction of connectivity. AI slop becomes an AI slope. Algorithm tables and algorithms tumble. We’re taking things a little off piste. More rock n' roll than flick & scroll... From here on in we're getting back to a place of real connectivity and as you might have noticed from our new “Graveyard”/“Lucky Charm” 7" (only available from record stores) there's no streaming, no videos, and a minimisation of online everything.

"Going forward we're looking to radio, live shows, listening parties, Q&A sessions & real life interactions to get back to a place we feel makes more sense. To that end, we're asking you to join us offline, outside of social media. To meet us in the real world. IRL not URL..."

The album will include Graveyard and Lucky Charm, two songs released as a Record Store Day exclusive 7" last month. It also features contributions from Mexico City's Mariachi 2000 De Cutberto Pérez, harpist Mary Lattimore, British multi-instrumentalist Daniel O'Sullivan and Zena "Steel Witch" Kay on pedal steel guitar.

Ahead of the album's release, listening parties will take place in UK and European cities, including Lisbon, Paris, London, Berlin and Porto next month, with Panda Bear and Sonic Boom set to perform at Primavera Sound Barcelona and PortoOpen'er Festival in Poland, Roskilde Festival in Denmark and Kikimu Festival in Estonia this summer. Further dates are to be confirmed soon.

Panda Bear released his seventh solo album, 'Sinister Grift', in February 2025 via Domino, while Sonic Boom collaborated with Swiss musicians SINNER DC for 'Maps', which dropped the same month.
