Julia Holter Announces 'Something In The Room She Moves' Companion Album 'Materia'

Julia Holter will release a new album this summer.
The seven-track 'Materia' is set to arrive on August 21 and serves as a companion record to its predecessor, 2024's 'Something In The Room She Moves'. A sequel of sorts, it'll feature new songs written and recorded with her band between tours, reworked versions of tracks from 'Something In The Room She Moves', as well as songs created during the making of the album.
To mark the announcement, the Los Angeles-based artist has shared Fantasy, a dreamy, atmospheric song that arrives with a video co-directed by Holter and Dicky Bahto. She said:
"This song of seeming willful abandon was somehow the most laborious undertaking of the entire record—it took over a year and went through various transformations—and I love that contradiction. It’s dancey, it feels to me like a kind of conjuring. And amidst the momentum of reverie, there’s the line “blink at the light and hope to survive,” because daydreams in a fascist state can be scary too. I was trying to find the right sanguine tempo."
The album will also include Holter's 2024 single The Laugh Is In The Eyes. At the time of releasing the track, she said: "The Laugh Is In The Eyes came out of the 'Something in the Room She Moves' writing sessions and it shares that album’s devotion to transformation and bodily senses."
