Billy Strings has outlined plans for his fifth studio album.
The follow-up to 2024's 'Highway Prayers' is titled 'So Much for Goodbyes' and will arrive through Reprise Records on August 28.
The 16-track project is dedicated to the Grammy-winning bluegrass star's late mother, Debra Apostol, who died last year after taking methamphetamine. Her artwork appears on the album's cover, with legendary producer T Bone Burnett overseeing the record. Strings said in a statement:
"I made this record to honor my mother. To notice and embrace this very significant period of grief in my life and make art from it. To turn my heartbreak into songs while using my guitar as a coping mechanism as I always have. It’s always been there for me to lean on through the hard times, and I figure it always will…until it’s my time to say goodbye."
Alongside the announcement, Strings has shared the record's lead single, Burn The Other End, a dark, slow-building bluegrass song that pairs intricate acoustic guitar finger-picking with reflective lyrics co-written with Paul Hoffman.
Strings will head out next month for a further run of North American tour dates and will remain on the road through to December. Tickets are on sale now.
Since his last album, Strings has also released a number of live record, including 2025's 'Live At The Legion', an album capturing his show with Bryan Sutton at American Legion Inglewood Post 82 in Nashville in 2024, and an EP titled 'Live From Apple Studios - Nashville, TN - June 17, 2025'. He also recorded a cover of If You're Gonna Be Dumb, You Gotta Be Tough for Jackass: Best and Last, the final film in the Jackass franchise that recently came out in cinemas.
