Last Johnny Cash Album Gets Release Date

It has been over six years since the original outlaw Johnny Cash passed away in 2003, yet the country star is set to release one final volume of ‘American Recordings’.

Probably known as one of the most iconic figures in country music The ‘Man In Black’ became a legend through his recordings for Sun Records which effectively brought about the arrival of Rockabilly music. Joining traditional styles with a modern edge, songs such as ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ labelled him a singer who sided with the excluded and the downhearted. He went on to become a hugely influential figure in American culture and society and the live shows he gave in various American prisons became enormously popular albums.

It wasn’t all brilliance from Cash though, during the 1980s he retreated into the wilderness and recorded a number of lacklustre albums. It appeared that the star’s career was heading downhill. In a complete turn of events however an astounding revival lay just around the corner.

Rick Rubin, a massive fan of Cash, approached the singer urging him to go back to his roots and record a series of badass acoustic meditations. The result was a series of awesome albums, as Johnny Cash remade traditional material alongside covers from Beck, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and more.

The singer passed away in 2003 and left behind an amazing legacy. It now appears that the final batch of those ‘American Recordings’ are ready for release. Taken from recording sessions towards the end of his life ‘American VI: Ain’t No Grave’ is to be the final chapter in the series of released albums. The new album will include some typically stripped down cover versions.

The new album ‘American VI: Aint No Grave’ is set for release on February 26th.
