The barmy English folkster who started his career in the late 70s with The Soft Boys and their inspired creation of Psychadelic Punk, has been around British music for the past few decades. Hitchcock, no relation, makes fans and keeps them for life. He’s hugely popular with the people he’s popular with but not everyone else. The critics sometimes love him but that’s never been enough to make him a big commercial success. It’s hard to tell whether he cares.

In his time, Hitchcock, still no relation, has been a member of bands The Egyptians and Venus 3, has been the subject of a documentary British/American documentary and went on a voyage with Jarvis cocker and KT Tunstall to somewhere icy. He’s back now and touring
