MGMT Say New Album Won't Have Any Singles

MGMT have claimed that they do not intend on releasing any singles from their forthcoming new album ‘Congratulations’.

Mixing an all out electro assault with psychedelic rock, MGMT could be said to be the perfect pop fodder. The group dominated the festival circuit after releasing a string of singles through the summer of 2008. Tracks such as ‘Kids’ were overhauled by a range of producers, with Soulwax crafting a dancefloor staple from the single. Set to return with a new album this year, MGMT have announced that they don’t want to release any singles this time around.

The band has said that the new material they have been working on is best left together as a complete album, rather than series of singles. "We'd rather people hear the whole album as an album and see what tracks jump out rather than the ones that get played on the radio - if anything gets played on the radio!" Ben Goldwasseer revealed.

The guitarist also claimed that the band would like to have the album accepted as a complete work in its entirety. "There definitely isn't a 'Time To Pretend' or a 'Kids' on the album" he told NME. "We've been talking about ways to make sure people hear the album as an album in order and not just figure out what are the best three tracks, download those and not listen to the rest of it."

Working in their Brooklyn home the new material includes odes to cult artists, with potential song titles such as ‘Brian Eno’ and ‘Song For Dan Treacy’. Former Spaceman 3 member Sonic Boom produces the new album which is due to be released this Spring.
